"Neglected by Two Countries: Young Voices of the American Dream"
Former teacher Marie Elena Cortes discusses her book NEGLECTED BY TWO COUNTRIES which is a compilation of the true to life stories of her former middle school students who have been caught in the middle of the immigration debate. This is not just a policy issue for these youth. Their lives have been thrown into turmoil by the immigration system that judges their parents and limits their futures. This book is a testament to the importance of all of our stories. This panel will help teachers, community, members, and policy makers better understand the toll our broken immigration system takes on our young. These stories also demonstrate the power of literature to instruct and inspire.
